The Seven Gates of Damascus
This project is inspired by Syrian 'Qanun' virtuoso Abdullah Chhadeh, and his compositions about the seven old gates of the walls of Damascus, his hometown in Syria. Each of these gates belongs to a different area of Damascus and shows a different face of it, a different 'vibe' as Abdullah explained to the camera while he walked us through the narrow strees of the Old City. The Qanun, one of the oldest calssical arabic instrument conceptually similar to a zither, is what drives Abdullah's band Nara as they take their music on tour around the world. Here below are two segments from a first 20 minutes cut of the footage.
