The word 'moonweed' is a straight translation from the Italian 'Erba Luna' - the nickname of a Nothern European plant whose latin name is Lunaria Annua. The dried fruits of the Lunaria are disc-shaped and semi-transparent, and as light shines through them, they get a silvery tint very similar to the color of the full moon - hence the name. It is not only a beautiful plant, but also a very adaptable one in that it grows spontaneously in the most unlikely places, an 'exploratory' plant. It is known in English as Annual Honesty.
